VOGUE 9811, uber sophisticated 1950s dress

Thirty five degree heat and one unhappy baby equals three hours at the mall trying to keep cool (and calm), lots of fatigue and a short daily post! Our house is midcentury in style, it is also antiquated in airconditioning terms!

Dreaming of cooller climes, this is today’s pattern of the day. I had fun with the photo… reminded me of 15th century Netherlandish art (yes, I studied that for a short while amongst other things in my undergrad)! Some painters would paint a frame with a small fly for the purposes of creating an illusion and playing a trick on the viewer.

I liked the cover of this 1940s Vogue dressmaking book… do you see the slight illusion??? The key was getting the shadows right…
